We have since improved our design and implementation. Here it goes!

Ground to ground round-trip range: >2km
Ultra Low power mesh node at <3mW (<1mA@3V)
Proprietary mesh protocol with universal node type for ease of deployment
GPS embedded for location
Physical and data security features
